So time for a stand still - I took the weekend and got away to the bushveld up north, where red dust, thorn bushes, 20 000 people and some awesome bands where "hidding" at Oppikoppi 2010 - Sexy Crooked Teeth... I love this festival - a whole weekend with my besties and all the coolest bands in SA!!! Have a look at some of my cool pics...

So it looks like the little bit of Winter that Durbs was gonna have this year is almost over... The snow in the Berg didn't last long and the freezing wind was just enough to make me feel nice and cozy under the covers with a cuppa hot choc. It's a good thing, coz I'm not exactly Winter's biggest fan... So I had to spoil myself with these beautiful shoes the other day - just to dress up my favourite jacket and knitted tights :) Thanks Mr P!

It's so hard to walk away from market empty handed... impossible in fact, as there are just too many loveley goodies that just need to go home with you.... This week I had a good excuse though... my bestie is coming home from London and she needs a little African-inspired-welcome-home-something to show her how much I missed her and to make her (hopefully) stay, even if it's only for a while...

I thought this lovely brooch from Nicky was the perfect reminder of the beauty and simplicity of the country of my heart and the colourful postcard as a freeby will make the perfect card...

Nadia had the most devine lucky dip and I could not pass up the oppertunity to make this little secret part of the prezzy...

Lisa and Jo's cute postcard stole my hart and I had to have this little package parcel...

And as I opened it up there were just more and more surprises inside... they made me sooo happy - like a little girl at Christmas!!

I walked a way a very happy girl indeed... Hope my friend loves her prezzies as much as I loved buying them for her..... Welocome home JoJo!!

Chatting to my besties...

Two of my most favouritest people in the world are currently in London having the time of their lives... it's been quite difficult keeping in touch, but now they have settled down a little and I got to see them on Skype last night... Not that the convo lasted very long as the signal on my wireless is a little screwed, but at least I got to see their faces and hear their voices for a little while and that made me a very very happy girl indeed!!

Packing my bags for a quick holiday...

I'm off to Jozi for a quick get away on Friday... Don't know how much resting will be involved, but I sure am excited to see my Mommy!! I'm sure she'll spoil me rotten even though there will be a lot of packing involved as they are moving house soon, and I've gotta go box up my childhood things. Visits home are always inspiring... My Mom's an awesome creative and my brother is an industrial designer, so inspiartion and love is always reviving! Jippie!!

In search of a new hairstyle

I used to have long blond hair.... Then one day I decided that a sort mop of lucious chocolate was more like it.... But my locks are now a little overgrown and I need a bit of a trim... and maybe a bit of a colour revolution too... I'm in love with candyfloss pink, but I don't have the guts or the day job to pull it off :) I guess the next best thing is platinium blond.... I can just see it now -short and cool ( coz Durban is way too hot this time of the year) with lost of texture like the last pic.... But maybe I should start the process off slowly though with a few cautious highlights.... I'm thinking orange is not half as cool as pink :)

Now strange but true - I'm not a girl who wishes and dreams to own a Louis Vuitton bag... but I've been in love with Marc Jacobs' designs for as long as I can rememeber - the man is a genious...!!! I absolutely adore his sence of perportion, layering and HUMOUR!!!! I love love love what he did for the Spring 2010 RTW Louis Vuitton collection... the layering, the textures, the tassels, the cultural reference, the knee length leggings and most of all the tangled candy-floss hair with the little bows!

I am so feeling the black today... Add a few studs, some ink and a little hardwear and it's sooo hot!

I'm usually the frilly, girly kind but I guess rock is not not a trend - it's a way of life right?

I blame it on my (not so) little (anymore) brother - he's the ultimate hard-ass rocker (with a perfectly mooshy hart undernearth all the ink and studs)

Give me black, and bleached out jeans, and studded bangles, and Doc Martins a lotsa tattoos and loud music and I'll be happy today :)

     I've been setting up shop next to Sara's beautiful store for three weeks in a row. Every Saturday morning I've sat there watching all the ladies swoon over her beautiful creations, and every Saturday morning I've had my eye on a beautiful brooch just to have it swept up by some other girl while I sat there deciding whether to induldge or not...
     Everyone who's seen Sara's work will know that it takes a while to make up your mind about exactly which one you need to take home, as every brooch is made with such care and perfection that they are all absolutely stunning!
     This week it was a beautiful blue heart-shape that caught my eye - and when someone picked it up for the hunderedth time my heart almost stopped... But it was my lucky day - she decided to take another one and I could rush over and claim this beauty! I am now also a proud owner of a gorgeous Luck You felt brooch! :)

And seeing as it's Christmas time I also spoilt myself with this cool necklace by Mimi and Me.

I was so hungry when I left the market on Saturday and my kitchen cupboards were slightly empty since my weeks have been hectic and my weekends even more so... So I decided to stop at the Durban Food Market in Clarence Rd as it is on my way home. There I discovered some lovely Pea and Mozerella Soup. Dressed with homemade croutons it made the perfect meal and certainly hit the spot - YUM YUM!!! :)

This little art work is one of those things that reminds me that sewing must be in my blood. It was a gift to my wonderful grandmother which I made when I was about four or five... I couldn't even write properly yet! But every stitch is perfectly placed in my favourite shapes - hearts!! I rediscovered this little treasure on a recent visist home, and since my granny now resides in heaven, it serves as the perfect momento of our wonderful time together. Ouma Sarie kept me busy and out of trouble for many hours by teaching me all sorts of wonderful secrets. Little did I realize then that these treasures of time - knitting, crochetting, embroidery and sewing - would be gifts that would create endless happiness in my life...

Shopping with Nadia is always an adventure... She's shown me loads of little places to find the best of Durban's shopping offers: wonderful vintage, lace and ribbon, trims and trinkets and of course BUTTONS...

We saw these gorgeous ancient boxes of binding in one of the shops we discovered on Brickfield road. It's awefully dusty and quite a bit messy, but it's overloaded with treasures for crafting.

So it's no secret that I'm a "Vaalie" by birth right, growing up in the rat race of the Jozi suburbs. But here's a little tribute to the city that stole my heart one night while I was searching my way down the N2 to meet some new-found friends at the Great Gateway. It was dark and I was running late and wondering how far I still had to go when suddenly, as if from nowhere, millions of lights appeared on the hill and the whole landscape was filled with a bright golden light. Up and down the hills and up again these little lights stretched into non-exisistance... and that was the moment I realized, after just two weeks, I was in love with Durban!

I was probably drawing hearts way before I drew squares or circles or before I could even write or read. Somehow hearts just seam to pop up all around me - in clouds and scrunched up papers, stones and fallen leaves - you get the point. Hello there! Welcome to my blog!

So this is something that I've been meaning to do for a while, but I never really get time to get round to it... But no more "I'll do it on the weekend," or "wait for Monday" or "maybe next month..." Here I go - here and now - even if I have to sit here till the wee hours of the morning till I figure this posting thing out...

This is me - I'm a pretty normal twenty-something girl with a childhood dream of owning my own clothing shop. So Black Butterfly is my designer range of clothing and accessories which is slowly starting to grow... So watch this space to see my Butterfly grow her wings...
